Wedding Invitation - Marília & Davy
A wedding invitation built as a website, with a travel theme: date and venue, RSVP, gift list, PIX and the colours guests should avoid.
Overview
I built this invitation for the wedding of Marília and Davy, who are friends and family. Instead of a printed card, guests get a link with everything they need: the date, time and venue, the dress code, the colours to avoid, the RSVP, the gift list and the PIX key.
The theme is a journey, because the couple’s story began long-distance. The invitation opens with a passport cover, the top shows a boarding pass and a plane flying across a map, and the RSVP becomes a check-in.
Technical decisions
All of the invitation’s text lives in one file
Names, date, venue, section copy, links and dress-code colours sit in a JSON file, and the components only read from it. Changing the ceremony time or the PIX key means changing a value, without touching a component.
What it cost: there is no panel for the couple to edit anything. Every change goes through me, as an edit to the file and a new deploy.
Links become QR codes
The RSVP, the gift list and PIX appear as cards with a QR code. Someone opening the invitation on a computer points their phone at the screen and goes straight to the link. The PIX key has a button that copies it in one tap.
What it cost: the RSVP and gift list codes are generated from their links, but the PIX code is an image. If the key changes, the image has to be replaced by hand.
The motion respects people who prefer less of it
The cover slides away to reveal the invitation, the plane loops around the map and scrolling is smoothed. When the device is set to reduce motion, the cover is skipped, the plane stays still on the map and scrolling goes back to native.
What it cost: every animation needed a second, still version. People who reduce motion also miss the passport cover, which is how the theme opens.
Results and lessons
The invitation is live and puts the wedding details, the RSVP, the gift list and PIX behind a single link.
