AESE Business School

The new website for AESE, a Portuguese business school, built at Buzzvel. I developed the front end of its WordPress theme, including the Gutenberg blocks.

AESE Business School logo on an orange background, with screens of the site below it, including the home page with the headline "Os líderes de amanhã constroem-se hoje." and the learning methods page
AESE home page with a photo header, figures for associated schools, participants and alumni, the list of executive, sector, short and company programmes, and the footer with the newsletter
Buzzvel slide titled "Challenges" with the Executive MBA page, showing the application deadline and the programme's submenu
Buzzvel slide titled "Solutions" with three programme pages, including the Programa de Alta Direção de Empresas and Formação para Empresas
Several pages of the site at an angle, including company partnerships, academic partnerships, the school's timeline and the Program Finder

Overview

AESE is a Portuguese business school with campuses in Lisbon and Porto. It offers an executive MBA, executive programmes, short courses and custom programmes for companies. With that many kinds of programme, the old website could not present them all in a consistent way.

The new website is a Buzzvel project. Buzzvel organised the information and created a content model shared by every programme. Buzzvel’s design team did all of the site’s UI and UX in Figma and handed it over to the development team. The site is a custom WordPress theme, in Portuguese and English.

My part

Working from the Figma design, I built the site’s front end. I turned the screens into Gutenberg blocks, with their editable fields in ACF, so AESE’s team can build and update pages from those blocks.

The theme uses what WordPress already provides and adds plugins where it made sense:

  • Custom post types for programmes, faculty and documents, each with its own ACF fields. A new programme enters the site with the same structure as the others.
  • WordPress’s own APIs for the forms and for the listings of programmes, faculty and documents.
  • Fluent Forms for form submissions, managing registrations for events in the agenda and registering faculty members.
  • WPML to translate the site between Portuguese and English.

Results and lessons

The site is live at aese.pt. According to Buzzvel’s case study, the new model makes the school’s editorial work easier and lets it add programmes without rebuilding the site’s structure.
